On 01st September 2014 Dunlop officially became a tenant in the newly revamped Lion Match Office Park in Durban’s Umgeni Road. This move marks a significant new chapter in the company’s history and a new start for Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd (SRSA).
A proudly Durban-based company, Dunlop has been located in Sydney Road, Congella, for almost 80 years. The Dunlop brand, which is manufactured under license by Japanese tyre manufacturing giant – Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd (SRI), has a rich history and strong loyalty base in South Africa having first been introduced to the country in 1935. Today, the company produces a range of passenger, 4×4 / SUV and light truck tyres from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ladysmith.
While the company is saddened to leave its historic home, it is confident that this move will provide improved opportunities in this centralised Durban location. SRSA is fully committed to the rejuvenation of the city’s CBD and after considering the various options, decided that the Lion Match Office Park was definitely its first choice.
SRSA was impressed with the overall layout and facilities provided by Lion Match including access to ample parking in a safe and secure office complex, which is ideally situated for access to all major routes in and out of the city. The contemporary finishes, combined with the original colonial architecture, reminiscent of the early century, adds to the unique flavour of the building. Lion Match Building’s historical significance was particularly appealing to SRSA.
On 01st September 2014, the company’s 100+ Head Office staff took up residence in their new home. The office layout mixes the old with the new by paying homage to the Dunlop brand’s iconic history and achievements with a dedicated museum section containing sentimental artefacts as well as inspiring graphics encompassing the modern developments and products offered by SRSA.
SRSA is excited about its recent relocation and firmly believes that this move will facilitate improved operations with its accessibility to a modern business park applications and advantages.
