30 June, 2011 – Pretoria – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) introduced its Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme to the Ford Puma rugby team as well as a host of local customers at a special event hosted in the Mpumalanga province.
The event got underway at Eastvaal Ford and Mazda dealership in Witbank with the feisty Ford Figo stealing the show as guests got behind the wheel. Each participating group was made up of one Puma player, participating customers and a DSFL instructor. The instructors were on hand to offer pointers on safe driving techniques and how to optimize driving performance without sacrificing on fuel economy.
“The Ford DSFL instructors have been trained to international standards,” says General Manager, Customer Service, Nicho Le Roux. “This event provided us with the unique opportunity to engage with the Ford Puma rugby team as well as our customers and share with them many useful tips on driving optimally no matter what the conditions.”
The DSFL programme is tailored to educate drivers on collision avoidance techniques and general skills to improve vehicle control. The course also incorporates driving tips that help to improve drivers’ fuel efficiency, leading to a lower impact on the environment and cost-savings at the pump.
While the theory formed the basis of the event, the day proved to be a fun filled affair as the contingent of Ford vehicles brought a sense of excitement to the streets of Witbank and highlighted the importance of road safety. With the activities successfully completed the newly inducted ECO ROAD Warriors received a ‘Driving Book of Life’, with many useful tips to remember in the future, as well as a certificate presented by the Ford Puma players.
“We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the event,” concluded Le Roux. “We are proud to be associated with the Ford Pumas and we look forward to collaborating with them on other exciting initiatives throughout the year.”
The Ford Pumas are now gearing up for the 2011 Curry Cup league, which kicks off in July and concludes in October. No doubt all the Ford fans will be putting their support behind the team this season.
