Leading Durban automotive parts manufacturer, G.U.D. Holdings, continued their investment in youth development through sport by renewing their sponsorship of the Sharks Academy in 2016. G.U.D. Holdings presented a cheque of 1 million rand to the Sharks Academy on 27 August 2016 during the Sharks vs Blue Bulls Currie Cup match at the Growthpoint Kings Park Rugby Stadium.
The partnership between G.U.D. Holdings and the Sharks Academy is in its fifth year with G.U.D. remaining the largest sponsor. Fifty rugby and soccer bursaries which include an educational qualification at a tertiary institution have been awarded to talented youth from previously disadvantaged communities since 2012.
According to Red Shuttleworth, CEO of G.U.D. Holdings, they are passionate about the Sharks and this motivated them to play a role in supporting South African youth through sport. “Being a Durban based company for the past 65 years we are huge supporters of the Sharks and are proud to be associated with the Sharks Academy to uplift the next generation of South African sports icons.”
The Sharks Academy has been developing students that have become rugby superstars for years now with likes of Pat Lambie and Beast Mtawarira to name a few. G.U.D. Holdings has seen great success by their rugby sponsored students who went on to join the Sharks such as Mzamo Majola who plays in the under 20 team.
