Extension of COVID-19 TERS Benefit Scheme

Rmiblock

The Department of Employment and Labour has announced that the COVID-19 TERS benefits scheme will be extended.

As RMI members will know, the TERS (Temporary Employee Relief Scheme) is a fund that was established by the state in an attempt to assist employees who have suffered a cut in their earnings due to the effects of the COVID-19 virus.

The initial three-month period of the scheme, which began at the start of the Lockdown phases, has now been extended to 15 August 2020.
There are three ways for RMI members to make applications on behalf of their employees-

  1. The Motor Industries Staff Association (MISA) will assist RMI members with their applications. The RMI again encourages members to make use of this facility. Please refer to the attached MISA-TERS Guide for the advantages of this method and for the process to be followed.
  2. MIBCO has also offered to assist industry members. Please refer to the MIBCO-TERS Guide for more information.
  3. Members who prefer to apply to the fund directly should visit the site https://uifecc.labour.gov.za/covid19/ or call 0800 030 007.

Members should note that applications for TERS benefits for the months of April and May will be closed at the end of July.
